With the 2014 Fifa World Cup wrapping up and the whole world going crazy over soccer, I decided to find out who is the Social Media MVP?
David Beckham comes in #3 with his 44 million Facebook fans.
This recently retired superstar has been scoring goals and breaking hearts since he entered the league in 1992 with the Manchester United. Beckhams high profile lifestyle and explosive soccer career have probably made him the most recognizable soccer star on the planet. His marriage to Victoria Beckham and former Spice Girl “Posh Spice” made him a double hit with his female fans and devoted soccer lovers. Most people would be surprised that Beckham and his high-fashion hair cuts would come in a distant 3rd in the social MVP polling, but as you will see with our next two finalist, he wasn't even close.
Leo Messi, the #2 runner up for the 2014 MVP of Social.
His almost 63 million Facebook fans was not enough to give him the #1 spot this year. Leo is however leading his team in the 2014 World Cup. This Argentine superstar has reached god like status amongst his fans and followers and is treated like a king in his home country. Nominated every year for the highest awards in soccer, Leo Messi is a titan on the field. Considered by some to be the best player in the game, Messi has made a lasting impression on the way the world views Argentine soccer. However like the rest of his career, it is always been overshadowed and eclipsed by one. Leo Messi may of reached god like status and may be treated like a king; but the next player on our list, is the King of all the soccer Gods.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the MVP of Social!
Like he does on the field, Cristiano Ronaldo has destroyed his social media competitors. His almost 91 million Facebook followers speak louder than his MVP goal scoring foot. Ronaldos rise to fame has been fast and viral. Considered by most to be the greatest player to ever step on the field, Cristiano Ronaldo reigns supreme. With no one even close to his 91 million fans, I estimate that he hits 100 million before his competitors reach his current level. His near 7% audience growth over the past 90 day tells me that Ronaldo shows no sign of slowing down.
